The English language colleges in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Oxford and York are accredited by the British Council and English UK.
English language colleges accredited in the UK by the British Council provide a higher standard of teaching and services. Accredited English language colleges in the United Kingdom are inspected by the British Council to ensure they maintain high standards.
Study Abroad UK offers students in language colleges in the UK a choice of accommodation. Students can stay with a host family. For more information on host families, please see the host family section on the Study Abroad UK website. Alternatively, students in language colleges in the UK can stay in a shared student apartment. Student apartments are located near to transport and facilities.
English language qualifications
English language colleges in the UK offer preparation courses for prestigious and internationally recognised qualifications.
Non-native speakers of English need language qualifications to enroll on a degree course at a British university in the UK. Non-native speakers of English also need language qualifications for many professional jobs in the UK.
Language colleges in the UK help students prepare for the following English language qualifications:
- Cambridge offers a range of exams which provide proof of a student’s English language ability at different levels. The most popular exams are the Cambridge First Certificate in English (FCE) for upper-intermediate level students and the Cambridge Advanced Certificate (CAE) in English for advanced students.
- Trinity is a widely-recognised examining board that offers Spoken ESOL Exams covering 12 grades, from Beginner to an almost native speaker level of fluency. For more details, please see the sections on General English and Intensive English.
- The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is an examination run by Cambridge ESOL and the British Council. Students are tested in English reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. Most universities in the UK require non-native speakers to achieve an IELTS score of 6 or more before being accepted on to a degree course. Professional bodies in the UK (for example, the General Medical Council) also require non-native speakers to achieve an IELTS score before they can practice in the UK. General English (for students ages 18 +)
Study Abroad UK offers general English language courses at English language colleges in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Oxford and York.
Students can study any time of year. New classes start every week on any Monday all year round.
Students can study for any number of weeks. Students can study for a minimum of 1 week. Students can study for a maximum of 52 weeks.
Our general English program will help students

Intensive English (for students aged 18 +)
Study Abroad UK offers intensive English language programs at English language colleges in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Oxford and York. The intensive English language program is similar to the general English program, but students have more hours of English language tuition on the intensive program.
Students can study any time of year. New classes start every week on any Monday all year round.
Students can study for any number of weeks. Students can study for a minimum of 1 week. Students can study for a maximum of 52 weeks.
Our intensive English program will help students
- improve reading, writing, listening and speaking skills
- increase English vocabulary, pronunciation and fluency
- gain confidence using the English language

- 25 hours English language tuition a week
- 30 hours English language tuition a week
All intensive English language programs include

- 25 or 30 hours English language tuition a week in small classes

Cambridge First Certificate in English (for students aged 18 +)
Study Abroad UK offers Cambridge First Certificate in English programs at English language colleges in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Oxford and York. This program will help students prepare for the Cambridge First Certificate in English.
Students can study any time of year. New classes start every week on any Monday all year round.
Students can study for any number of weeks. However, we strongly recommend that students study for at least 10 weeks before taking Cambridge exams.
Our Cambridge First Certificate in English program will help students

- prepare for the Cambridge First Certificate in English exam
- take practice exam papers
- improve exam and study techniques
All Cambridge First Certificate in English programs include

Our Business English program will help students to develop the English language skills needed to succeed in business. The program will also help students prepare for Certificate in Business English examinations.
Students can study any time of year. New classes start every week on any Monday all year round.
This is a 12 week course and students study for 12 weeks.

Study Abroad UK offers English for Lawyers programs at English language schools in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Oxford and York. This program will help students develop the English language skills used in national and international law.
Students can study any time of year. New classes start on the first Monday of every month all year round.
This is a 2 week course and students study for 2 weeks.
Our English for Lawyers program will help students

- understand topics related to legal practice
